Text boxes and shapes carry most of the work in any deck, so RixSlides makes them fast: you edit text directly on the high-fidelity canvas, insert preset shapes from a full prstGeom gallery, and keep everything aligned with arrange tools and snap guides. This page is the everyday editing reference — the moves you will repeat hundreds of times per deck.
Edit text on a slide
- Double-click any text box to edit in place; the selection handles show the box bounds.
- Use the sidebar to set font, size, weight, color, line spacing and bullets.
- Click outside the box to commit — the canvas renders the result exactly as it will present.
- Need the same change on ten slides? Use Find & replace (Ctrl+H) to sweep the deck in one pass.
Text in RixSlides is native .pptx text. Autofit behavior, bullet levels and paragraph spacing behave as the file defines them, and byte fidelity means untouched boxes keep their exact original settings.
Shapes and the prstGeom gallery
Every preset shape in the .pptx specification is available through the Insert, Shape menu:
- Rectangles, rounded rectangles and frames for structure
- Arrows and connectors for flows
- Callouts and speech bubbles for annotations
- Stars, banners and explosions for emphasis
- Flowchart symbols for process diagrams
Because these are real prstGeom geometries — not drawn approximations — a shape you insert in RixSlides opens in PowerPoint as the same shape, and vice versa. Fill, outline, shadow and rotation are edited in the sidebar with live canvas preview.
The format brush
The format brush copies styling from one element and applies it to the next. Select the styled element, click the brush, then click each target. It transfers fill, outline, font treatment and effects at once — the difference between five minutes and an hour when you are styling a dozen callout boxes.
Hyperlinks and dynamic fields
Slides are not static paper:
- Hyperlinks attach to text or shapes and open a web page or jump to another slide — useful for appendix navigation during the talk.
- Fields insert dynamic values: datetime fields that show the presentation date, and slide number fields that update automatically when slides reorder. Put a slide number field on the master once and every slide numbers itself.
Arrange: group, align, flip, rotate
Multi-element layouts are where decks get messy, so the arrange tools do the heavy lifting:
- Group binds elements so they move and scale as one unit.
- Align lines elements to the slide edges or to each other — left edges, centers, spacing.
- Flip mirrors an element horizontally or vertically, which matters for arrows and asymmetric shapes.
- Rotate turns an element freely by drag or by an exact angle from the sidebar.
Snap guides while you drag
As you drag, RixSlides shows snap guides when edges and centers line up with nearby elements or the slide. Release when the guide appears and the element lands exactly aligned. Combined with the align tools, this removes most eyeball-estimation from layout work.
Find and replace across the deck
Find & replace (Ctrl+H) is deck-wide: every occurrence on every slide, including text inside grouped shapes. Typical uses:
- Renaming a product or client before the deck ships
- Updating a date that appears on the title slide and in footers
- Fixing a recurring typo the spell-checker misses
What to explore next
- Tables guide when your content outgrows plain text boxes.
- Templates and styles to stop styling the same elements twice.
- Masters and layouts for changes that should apply to every slide.
