AI Translate turns a RixDocs document into another language without leaving the editor. It supports seven target languages, works block by block like every Rixoffice AI action, and runs on whichever AI provider you have configured — including a fully local model through Ollama.
Translate your first section
- Select the text to translate — a paragraph, a section, the whole body.
- Open the Review tab or the AI composer and choose AI Translate.
- Pick the target language from the seven available.
- AI proposes the translation for the selected blocks.
- Review, refine with a follow-up instruction if needed, and apply.
Because the action is block-scoped, translating a long document is a controlled sequence: title, then introduction, then each section. The original text is not destroyed — you decide whether the translation replaces the block or is placed alongside it, and the original remains in the file for reference.
Where translation fits in a workflow
Typical uses:
- Bilingual deliverables — a report that ships in two languages, with matching structure because both sides were built from the same document.
- First-pass drafts — machine translation for internal understanding, followed by a human translator for the published version.
- Confidential material — contracts and internal papers translated entirely offline with Ollama, so no sentence ever reaches a cloud service.
For documents heading to formal publication, treat AI output as the draft: a human review of terminology and tone is still the professional standard, and comments are the right place to collect a reviewer's terminology decisions.
The provider behind the translation
Translation follows the provider configured in Settings:
| Setup | What translation costs | Network |
|---|---|---|
| Built-in Rix AI | Plan credits per action | Online |
| BYO API key | Your provider's pricing | Online, direct to provider |
| Ollama local model | Nothing | None — fully offline |
Seven target languages cover the common business pairs; for scripts like Arabic, Chinese and Korean, RixDocs' bundled fonts ensure the translated text renders correctly on screen — see the text formatting guide.
Tips for better translations
- Translate whole paragraphs, not fragments — context is what makes translation coherent.
- Say what to preserve: keep product names, legal terms or measurements untranslated by stating so in the prompt.
- Proof the result — run AI Editor proofing on the translated text in the target language to catch grammar slips.
- One language per pass — mixing target languages in a single selection muddles the output.
