This guide walks you from an empty workspace to a saved document in about five minutes — and shows your first AI action along the way.
Open the workspace
Launch Rixoffice. The Home screen shows your recent files grouped by Today and Yesterday, with filters for Docs, Sheets, Slides, PDF and Markdown. To start something new, use any of these:
- Click New Tab, then choose the app you want.
- Use the quick buttons New Doc, New Sheet, New Slide or New Markdown on the Home screen.
- Press Ctrl+N (Cmd+N on Mac) inside an app tab to add another document of the same type.
Documents open in tabs, like a browser. You can keep a report, its data workbook and the presentation deck open at the same time and switch with one click.
Write your first page in RixDocs
- Click New Doc. A blank page opens with the ribbon on top — Home, Insert, Layout, Design, References, Review, View and Draw tabs, just like a familiar word processor.
- Type a title, select it, and apply Heading 1 from the Home tab.
- Press Enter, write a paragraph, and use the toolbar to bold, italicize or add a list.
- Try Insert to add a table, image, chart or page break.
Everything you type stays on your machine. Autosave keeps a working copy as you type.
Try your first AI action
- Place the cursor in a paragraph, or select a few blocks.
- Open the AI composer (the assistant button in the toolbar or the panel at the bottom).
- Type something simple, like: rewrite this paragraph to be more concise.
- AI proposes an edit for the selected block only. Accept it, refine it, or ignore it — the rest of your document is untouched.
If you signed in with a plan, this action uses one AI credit. If you configured your own API key or Ollama, it uses your provider instead. See AI provider setup.
Save and export
- Press Ctrl+S (Cmd+S on Mac) and pick a folder — your document saves as .docx with byte-preserving fidelity.
- To share, use File, Export as PDF to produce a polished PDF from the same document.
- Markdown fans can paste Markdown into RixDocs and it converts to rich text automatically.
What to explore next
- RixDocs getting started for styles, tables and track changes.
- RixSheets getting started for formulas and pivot tables.
- AI agents overview to meet the five agents behind the composer.
