Images and Background Removal in RixSlides

Work with pictures in RixSlides: crop, cut out backgrounds, adjust opacity, replace images in place, and position them with arrange tools and snap guides.

On this page

Pictures carry the visual weight of a deck, and RixSlides treats them as first-class native parts: insert, crop, cut out the background, set opacity, replace in place — all on the high-fidelity canvas, all without leaving the editor. Because image work happens where the layout lives, you frame a photo against the actual slide instead of guessing in a separate tool.

Insert and crop a picture

  1. Choose Insert, Picture and select the file; it lands on the slide embedded in the deck.
  2. Drag the corner handles to scale; hold proportion while resizing for photos.
  3. Use the crop handles to trim to the part of the image that matters — the crop stays non-destructive, so you can re-frame later.
  4. Position with snap guides, or align against other elements with the arrange tools.

The canvas renders images exactly as they will present and export, so what you see while cropping is the final result.

Cut out the background

Background removal is the tool that turns a stock photo into a design element. A subject on a clean background floats over anything: a color field from the style template, another image, text.

  1. Select the picture.
  2. Apply cutout/background removal from the picture controls.
  3. The subject is separated from its background and the background disappears on canvas.
  4. Refine if needed, then position the cutout — a person or product now sits on any slide composition.

The result remains a native picture part in the .pptx, so it round-trips to PowerPoint and exports cleanly to PDF and PNG. Typical uses: a speaker photo on a title slide, a product floating above a table of features, a team member cutout beside each section divider.

Opacity: when the image is a backdrop

Set opacity when an image should sit behind content rather than beside it:

  • Drop a photo to 20-40% opacity as a slide-wide backdrop under a headline.
  • Layer a faded screenshot behind an annotated shape drawing.
  • Soften a texture so body text keeps full contrast.

Opacity combines with layering — pictures can be placed above or below other content, so the stacking order is yours to decide, not the file's.

Replace images in place

Decks get revised, and photography gets swapped. Replace updates the image content while keeping the frame:

  1. Select the picture and choose Replace.
  2. Pick the new image file.
  3. The new picture takes the old one's position, size, crop and effects.

This is the difference between updating twelve product photos in twelve minutes and relaying out twelve slides. It also keeps AI-generated decks maintainable: swap the placeholder photography for brand-approved images without touching the layout the pipeline produced.

Pictures across the deck

For deck-wide image placement, the masters and layouts guide is the efficient path: a logo placed on the layout appears on every slide using it and updates in one edit.

What to explore next

Quick steps

  1. Choose Insert, Picture and pick an image from your disk.
  2. Use crop handles to frame the subject tightly.
  3. Apply cutout/background removal to separate the subject from its background.
  4. Adjust opacity when the image works as a backdrop behind text.
  5. Use Replace to swap the image later without disturbing layout or effects.

Frequently asked questions

Does background removal work inside the editor?

Yes. The cutout/background removal tool runs locally on the selected picture: the subject is separated from its background on the canvas, and the result stays a native .pptx picture part.

Can I replace a picture without losing its position and effects?

Yes. Replace swaps the image content in place, keeping the frame's position, size, cropping and any effects you applied — ideal for updating a deck with new photography.

Are images embedded in the .pptx file?

Yes. Pictures are embedded as standard media parts, so the deck is self-contained and opens identically on any machine.
