Edit Images in a PDF

Insert, replace, rotate, transform and delete images in a PDF with the Rixoffice PDF Editor, placing them above or below the page content.

Images in a PDF stop being untouchable the moment you open the Rixoffice PDF Editor: select any picture on a page and insert, replace, rotate, transform or delete it, with control over whether it sits above or below the page content. The workflow covers the two jobs that come up constantly — updating an outdated image in a received document, and adding a new one to a page that needs it — both locally, both written into the file as real PDF objects.

Insert an image

  1. Open the PDF and navigate to the page — thumbnails or search get you there.
  2. Choose Insert, Image and pick the file from your disk.
  3. The image lands on the page; drag to position, handles to scale.
  4. Rotate with the rotation handle for tilted placements, or set an exact angle.
  5. Choose the layer: above content puts it in front of text and graphics, below content tucks it behind them.

Below-content placement is the quiet workhorse: a logo behind the header text, a background image behind the whole page, a faded scan behind fresh annotations. Above-content placement is for things the reader should see first — a product photo, a chart snapshot, a pasted diagram.

Replace an existing image

  1. Click the image on the page to select it.
  2. Choose replace and pick the new file.
  3. The new image takes the old one's frame — position, size and rotation carry over.
  4. Adjust scale if the aspect ratio differs, then save.

Replace is the fix for the classic problem: the received PDF has last year's product shot, the old logo, the wrong headshot. One click, one file picker, and the document is current — no rebuild from the source, which usually is not available anyway.

Transform: position, scale, rotate

Every selected image transforms with direct handles:

HandleAction
Corner handlesScale, proportional or free
Edge handlesStretch one dimension
Rotation handleTilt to any angle
Body dragMove anywhere on the page

Snap behavior keeps alignments honest, and the page re-renders live so you can judge position against the text around it. Precision placements — a logo exactly in the header corner — are easier done once and then copied to sibling pages.

Delete an image

Select the image and use the delete control. The image object leaves the page's content and the page re-renders. Combined with page operations (delete the page entirely) and text editing, this covers the full "clean up a received document" pass: wrong text fixed in place, wrong images replaced or removed, pages that should not exist deleted outright.

Image work next to the other tools

Images pair naturally with the editor's neighbors:

  • Stamps and watermarks are the systematic version of below-content images — the same visual applied to every page, with angle and opacity controls.
  • Annotations are the review layer — draw a rectangle around the image area that needs replacing, and the comment travels with the file.
  • The AI assistant can generate images and apply image edits as part of a broader request, which is often faster than sourcing the replacement yourself.

Frequently asked questions

Can I replace an existing image in a PDF?

Yes. Select the image on the page and choose replace, then pick the new file. The new image takes the old one's position and frame, so the layout holds.

What does placing an image above or below content mean?

Layering: an image placed below the content sits behind text and graphics — useful for logos, watermarks and backgrounds — while one placed above sits in front, for photos, diagrams and pasted-in visuals.

Can I delete an image from a PDF?

Yes. Select it and delete. The image object is removed from the page's content and the remaining layout re-renders.
